Job Description

  • The Logistics Manager manages the end to end processes for warehouse management, logistics operations (import and export), custom brokerage, transportation planning and other logistics support for projects and 54gene in general. Coordinate the logistics support for projects including receiving, storing, transportation, customs clearance, issuing and processing payment for services in accordance with 54gene policies and guidelines.
  • Develop logistics procedures in cooperation with internal and external stakeholders within 54gene, disseminating these to enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper reconciliation of warehouses and inventory within different locations
  • Develop and support the laid down regulation in accordance with the policies and directives on receipt, distribution and management of inventory
  • Liaise with supply department to take up and arrange freight forwarding or transport; ensuring that goods/services procured are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner within 54gene regulations
  • Establish and sustain relations with banks and other agencies associated with import and export activities
  • Develop logistics procedures in cooperation with internal and external stakeholders within 54gene, disseminating these to enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the supply chain within the programmes
  • Develop KPI to monitor operational activities and present KPI to 3PL to improve their operation
  • Consistently update on import and clearing process and regulations in Nigeria, in line with approvals and prohibitions, duties and tariffs rates
  • Ensuring goods are cleared at the port within the lead time to prevent out of stock situations at minimal cost
  • Continually improve and maintain relationships with Customs, NAFDAC, SON inspection agencies and other governmental agencies
  • Anticipate, research and report on future changes in Nigerian Import/Export laws, procedures and practices, and ensure such knowledge is factored into the planning of the department's strategy and resources
  • Formulating pricing policies for products by determining and forecasting landing cost or forwarding cost (Imports or Exports) to management as part of pricing indices to determine price of products
  • Managing clearing agents to ensure prompt deliveries at minimum costs while maintaining freshness of products
  • Manage contract negotiations of clearing agents and forwarding agents for terms and conditions
  • Negotiations of shipping line charges on freight and local charge, where necessary
  • Manage and maintain relationships with shipping line and courier companies
  • Establish relationship with logistics companies for movement and distribution of samples and other materials whenever required
  • Develop KPIs and timeline for distribution of materials for special projects
  • Manage different mode of transportations (air, cold chain, road, etc) for 54gene operations
  • Promote compliance with good transport and logistical practices by proactively identifying broader issues regarding logistical weakness/non-compliance to policies and guidelines for the assigned country programmes

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience in a health/medical or Pharmaceutical industry; experience in working in donor funded programmes
  • Strong logistics planning experience
  • Good relationship management with major stakeholders and 3PL providers
  • Good relationships with Customs, NAFDAC, SON and other agencies that could facilitate prompt clearance of material both at international and local ports
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel
  • Sound ethics and integrity

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Logistics or related field; required
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), or related field strongly preferred

Experience:

  • At least 7 years post-graduation experience in Logistics operations
  • Experience in managing direct reports and ensuring proper coaching at a high level to achieve expected results
  • Experience in managing and coaching direct reports preferred
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, swiftly changing entrepreneurial environment; preferred.
