Midwife - 2 positions

Job Description
  • Northeast Nigeria is currently facing a growing humanitarian crisis with a vast number of Internally Displaced Persons in need of emergency assistance.
  • These IDPs are living among host communities, lacking access to livelihoods and resources, ultimately leading to unprecedented levels of malnutrition and food insecurity. FHI 360 has been working in Nigeria for over 30 years and is now expanding activities in Borno state to respond to the IDP crisis.

Basic Function
  • The Midwife/Skilled Birth Attendant will assist female patients in all stages of pregnancy, childbirth and post-delivery.
  • He/she will also provide antenatal and postnatal advice and support to women and their families.
Responsibilities
  • Works as part of a multidisciplinary team of international and national staff to provide high quality patient care to an extremely vulnerable population.
  • Provides direct patient care and accompany in the management of pre-natal, antenatal, inpatient and follow-up care for women (including deliveries).
  • Provides comprehensive sexual and reproductive health information and services including family planning counselling and services to prevent and treat malaria, tetanus, STI, HIV.
  • Provides training and management in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV
  • Provides reproductive health services and counselling to adolescents in the prevention of teen pregnancy, transmission of STI/HIV, and sexual violence related injuries.
  • Adheres to the relevant Code of conduct and ethics
  • Participates in outreach and community health programs (as required)
  • Participates in Continuing Professional Development (i.e. trainings, mentoring)
  • Plans care of the patient in collaboration with the site doctor.
  • Provision of direct nursing care i.e. Administration of IV medications, wound dressings clinical observations etc.
  • Maintains all reusable equipment by cleaning and sterilizing appropriately.
  • Maintain adequate and correct records of patient care including consumables & instruments utilized(if any)
  • Ensure high quality maternal health services at all project sites.
  • Works with technical support and M&E teams to collect appropriate baseline data over the life of the project
  • Compiles and submits periodic reports
  • Ensures adequate infection prevention and control measures are maintained at all times.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1-3years experience in nursing
  • Must be a Registered Nurse/Midwife
  • Must be fluent in English and Hausa
  • Previous experience working in a humanitarian crisis is highly desirable.

Nutrition Officer

Job Summary / Responsibilities
Basic Function:
  • Define program implementation modalities (targeting criteria, mobilization modalities, local partnerships, monitoring systems, staff schedules, etc.) Oversee all staff for the nutrition project including regular performance evaluations, management, general well-being, job descriptions, work schedules, discipline, etc. in co-ordination with the nutrition and primary health care coordinators. Coordination and participation in Nutrition Cluster, and nutrition assessment/ survey groups and filing of meeting minutes.
  • Monitor stocks physically at LGAs level, check for expiry date, quality and quantity.
Effective implementation of program activities:
  • Define program implementation modalities (targeting criteria, mobilization modalities, local partnerships, monitoring systems, staff schedules, etc.)
  • Plan and deliver trainings with support capacity building team on CMAM and IYCF
  • Ensure the implementation of activities defined by the Program Manager in coordination with the Logistics and Administration departments
  • Ensure sound monitoring of program activities
  • Ensure that logistics and administrative arrangements are made timely with the concerned departments.
  • Ensure provision of equipment, materials, supplies and drugs as necessary
  • Assess the needs of identified locations with local authorities and health personnel
  • Ensure timely submission of all reports from nutrition department
  • Develop plan of work for OTP, SC and IYCF activities according to the expected progress of the project
  • Evaluate and update program needs (HR, financing, logistics)
  • Liaise with concerned government authorities and ensure the programme strategy, objectives and activities are understood and agreed and appropriate communication channel is in place
  • Involve in the preparation of key IYCF and health messages in reference to the existing health and nutrition education materials
  • Organize monthly meetings with the team and report the outcome to the head of the programme along with proposed action plan
  • Ensuring IYCF education is disseminated to the target beneficiaries
  • Ensuring adherence to and respect of current treatment protocols
  • Analysing nutrition situation and prevailing trends
  • Document lessons learned and best practices at the program/District level
  • Supervise the daily and monthly reporting submitted by field the teams
  • Provide technical support to IYCF, OTP and SC team when required
Team Management:
  • Oversee all staff for the nutrition project including regular performance evaluations, management, general well-being, job descriptions, work schedules, discipline, etc. in co-ordination with the nutrition and primary health care coordinators
  • Provide technical support to staff and promote learning based on project objectives and activities and ensure documentation and sharing of learning with other sectors and programs
  • Ensure that staff responsibilities are clearly defined and understood, with performance objectives set against work plans and regularly monitored
  • Organize regular evaluation meetings of team members
  • Identify training needs, and supervise the technical training of national nutrition staff members
Representation and Coordination:
  • Coordination and participation in Nutrition Cluster, and nutrition assessment/ survey groups and filing of meeting minutes
  • Support, and actively participate the sub-Nutrition Cluster group meetings at district level constructively
  • Development of network with other actors in the area as well as community leaders/representatives
  • Represent FHI 360 nutrition programs when and if necessary vis-a-vis donors during their field visits
  • Identify structures where stakeholders are willing and motivated to integrate CMAM into the health system
  • Ensure communication and coordination between the SC, OTP, and IYCF team in the frame of a CMAM approach
  • Sensitize main stakeholders on CMAM and need for support and commitment for long term access to life saving activities for children; at this stage the overall entry/exit strategy can be shared emphasizing the vital role of the stakeholders to make this happen
Nutrition Supplies, Equipment and Stock Management:
  • Monitor stocks physically at LGAs level, check for expiry date, quality and quantity
  • Checking that all the supplies are listed in the stock register, bin cards are visible.
  • Participate in the follow-up of supplies consumption and orders
  • Ensuring that stock levels are sufficient for the functioning of SC and OTP (weekly, monthly or quarterly)
  • Make monthly physical inventory of all nutrition supplies
  • Raising relevant requests for supplies and stock well prior in time to prevent exhaustion of stocks and supplies for interventions.
Qualifications
  • B.Nurse, Nutritionist or MBBS/MD/PHD.
  • Masters in public health or nutrition or related subject is desirable.
  • Second language skills are desirable.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years field experience in nutrition program in a relief NGO,  ideally in a similar role.
  • Minimum 1 year in a position of requiring managing a team of expatriates is desirable.
  • Fluent in English and Hausa

Logistics and Warehouse Assistant

Basic Function
  • H/She, as relevant, will be responsible for maintaining and operating the warehouse containing a wide variety of project materials and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive delivery of materials in the warehouse.
  • Verify quantities of goods delivered, inspect for damage; and sign delivery tags.
  • Prepare and maintain records concerning the receipt and issuance of materials.
  • Update computer inventory control records.
  • Perform periodic physical inventory and reconciles with inventory records.
  • Assist in determining proper inventory levels, ordering points, and ordering quantities.
  • Confer with user departments and provide cost information for budgeting purposes.
  • Advise on methods to improve receiving, storing, and distributing materials and supplies; and maintain stock control records.
  • Liaises with Field Coordinator & Logistics and Procurement Manager to minimize inventory and eliminate obsolete items.
  • Track usage of supplies and report on any incidence of abuse.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • University degree, recognized equivalent or HND.
  • Familiarity with inventory management is an advantage.
  • Experience with large complex organization preferred.

Assistant Technical Officer-Environmental Health

  • The ATO-Environmental Health will provide technical and programmatic support in one of the three field sites.
  • Under the supervision of the WASH Coordinator, the h/she will monitor and train Community Volunteers on their hygiene promotion to IDPs.
  • Other responsibilities will also include training volunteers and community/camp leaders on safe waste management practices, and providing support on activities related to environmental health at the health clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide day to day operational and programmatic support to all WASH & Health activities.
  • Works closely with assigned team to ensure activities are implemented according to standard operating procedures (SOP’s).
  • Build capacity of Community Volunteers (CHWs) through waste management trainings and hygiene promotion.
  • Oversee activities related to hygiene and environmental health promotion at field site and additionally, at the health facilities.

Qualifications

Assistant Technical Officer-Laboratory Services

  • The Pharmacist/Dispenser will prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, and dispensing medications by compounding, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
Responsibilities
  • Works as part of a multidisciplinary team of international and national staff to provide high quality patient care to an extremely vulnerable population.
  • Carrying out inspection duties as provided for under the Poisons and Pharmacist’s Act, the Dangerous Drug Act and the Food and Drug Decree and other operational legislations
  • Dispensing prescribed medications to in-and-outpatients whilst providing accurate medication advice.
  • Maintaining stores and keeping relevant store records.
  • Preparing extemporaneous medicaments such as mixtures, lotions, ointments, syrups, etc.
  • Provides technical information and advice to other health professionals.
  • Ensuring proper storage and issuance of all drugs over the duration of the project.
  • Participating in routine quality control audits of all drugs in stock.
  • Adheres to the relevant Code of conduct and ethics
